This is another variety tape which includes mainline and tourist line action. First we witness Union Pacific Steam
with 4-8-4 Number 844 and 4-6-6-4 number 3985 as they depart Cheyenne on the first two segments of their journey
to Sacramento in 1991. We see the doubleheader for two days running between Cheyenne and Salt Lake City. Then we
watch 2 days of 3985 running solo as it makes a pair of roundtrips from Salt Lake City to McCammon, Idaho. This
is the largest operating locomotive in the world and the Union Pacific never disappoints you with the great action.
Our next segment is the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad with 2-8-2 #5 operating in this scenic area. You will see mostly
lineside views of the train, but there is also a nice little cab ride segment. Next we travel to Colorado to see
a variety of engines on the Durango and Silverton railroad. You will see 2-8-2;s number 476 and 481 on passenger runs,
and 497 on a work train. Completing our Steam In the West is the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic railroad in 1991, with
the first passenger train of the year, after the Rotary snowplow had cleared the line. There is an interesting
twist to this run on a lovely cold morning. Standard gauge, and narrow gauge in the Rockies. A great combination of steam action.
