BC Rail

This trip was the fulfillment of a long time personal ambition. We started at the yard at North Vancouver with a rebuilt RS18 and worked our way along the main line to Prince George. We got a brief look at the Royal Hudson along Howe Sound, then concentrated on the freights which are mostly led by the C40-8CM cowls, which we thought were handsome units. The scenery was just magnificent, especially the Fraser Canyon north of Lillooet, making for some stunning views of the trains clinging to the mountainside. We were thrilled to find a pair of C-420's switching at Prince George, and couldn't resist a quick trip to Tacheeda to catch CN handing a coal train over to the electrics This is a fascinating and unique railroad, you'll Iike it as much as we did. 2 Hours.

Beyond Hope

(Along the Thompson and Fraser River) I'd wanted to shoot the Thompson & Fraser Rivers once I saw the CTC Board article in the August 1988 issue, it took nine years but it was worth the wait. Stunning scenery, two railroads with interesting power and lots of action make for a great railfan experience, and we had an excellent time charging up and down in hot pursuit, or finding a good spot and just sitting. We had never really seen CN's big cowls or new SD75's, and Chris had never seen CP's

Boxcab - Montreal's Suburban Electrics

Available again by request after several years, this is an older program shot in 1989 on older equipment, so the quality is not nearly as good as newer programs. However, the boxcabs and steeplecabs are long gone, never to return. These were the oldest locomotives in regular service on the continent, 1914 GE and 1924 English Electric Co. Boxcabs, and 1950 GE steeplecabs, with six axle heavyweight cars, and some 1952 EMU's.

CP's Mountain Sub and Rogers Pass

The descriptions for the scenery that CP's Mountain Sub runs through are all inadeqate. The sub runs from Golden to Revelstoke, British Columbia, through some of the most stunning scenery on the continent. Lots of snow on the mountains, AC4400's, SD90MAC's and tired SD40-2's provide the action. Highrail Through The Rockies

Field to Lake Louise: Taped from the back of a CP Highrail Pickup in early June 2000 in perfect weather. No bugs on the windshield (no windshield!), no wipers, just a straight ahead view with a locked down camera. Only problem was insufficient light from the pickup's headlights, so I've left out the Spiral Tunnel interiors. Great snow covered mountain scenery. Ride the Hill! No narration, on screen locations. 2 Hours.

Hot Spots 10: Cisco, BC

Cisco is the point in the Fraser River Canyon where CN & CP cross each other and the Fraser on big steel trestles. This highly scenic location sees plenty of trains from both carriers, CN in particular running some huge freights. Directional running is now the norm, with westbounds on CP and eastbounds on CN. Two days of trains! 60 minutes.
